Anycast, DNS and VPS location - EDBB Docs

A DNS server shown in another city or country does not establish that your VPS is hosted there. Different parts of the DNS process can use different networks and locations.

Item	What it tells you
VPS service location	The physical hosting location you selected for the service
Recursive resolver	The service answering DNS lookups for your system
Authoritative nameserver	The server publishing records for a domain or reverse-DNS zone
PTR record	A hostname associated with an IP address; it is not physical-location proof
GeoIP result	A third party’s estimate of an IP address location

Anycast

Anycast can advertise the same service address from multiple sites. Routing selects an available path according to network policy and reachability; it does not guarantee the geographically nearest site. A resolver provider may process a query outside your VPS country.

Diagnose the actual question

For where a service is hosted, check its ordered EDBB location and ask support about any discrepancy.
For an incorrect database label, use GeoIP correction.
For VPN resolver behavior, review DNS leak tests.
For latency or loss, collect end-to-end network tests.
