This procedure installs the Kubuntu desktop on Ubuntu 22.04. It is not a Debian installation guide. A desktop consumes additional RAM and disk space; check your available capacity and the desktop package requirements before installing.

Prerequisites

Have a current backup, administrative access and a working VNC console. Review the packages and additional disk space proposed by the package manager before confirming.
Follow any display-manager prompts and allow installation to finish. Restart the guest cleanly when ready:

Open the desktop

Use the EDBB VNC console to view the graphical login and sign in with a normal local user. Installing a desktop does not itself configure an RDP service or a secure Internet-facing remote-desktop gateway. If the graphical login does not appear, inspect the display-manager service and available disk space from the console. Do not repeatedly reinstall the entire VPS to diagnose a desktop package problem. For another Ubuntu release or Debian, use that distribution’s supported desktop installation instructions and verify the required packages first.
