# RDP error 0xd07: account locked

> Resolve Windows RDP error 0xd07 after failed sign-in attempts. Check saved credentials, recover access and restrict Remote Desktop to trusted connections.

RDP error **0xd07** means Windows has locked the account after too many failed sign-in or password-change attempts. Old saved credentials or automated attempts against a public RDP port can cause repeated lockouts.

## Check your login details

1. Stop repeated connection attempts, including saved connections on other devices.
2. Check the username, password and keyboard layout. On a standard Windows Server installation, the administrative account is usually **Administrator**.
3. If you changed the password recently, remove the old saved password from your Remote Desktop client. On Windows, open **Control Panel → Credential Manager** and find the saved RDP credentials for this server.
4. Try again after the account's configured lockout period. The duration depends on Windows policy; some policies require an administrator to unlock the account.

## Use the console if you are still locked out

Open the [EDBB VNC console](/vps-management/enable-vnc-server). This gives you another way to reach the Windows sign-in screen, but it does not bypass a Windows account lockout.

If another administrator account is available, sign in with it and review the affected account in **Computer Management → Local Users and Groups → Users**. Check the account properties for the lockout setting. Domain accounts must be handled through the domain's administration tools.

If you have forgotten the password, follow [reset the Windows Administrator password](/vps-management/reset-windows-password). A password reset alone does not prevent new lockouts caused by ongoing failed attempts.

## Prevent repeated lockouts

* Restrict Remote Desktop in Windows Firewall to trusted source addresses, or connect through a VPN you control.
* Keep Network Level Authentication enabled and install Windows security updates.
* Check Windows Security logs for failed sign-ins and the source addresses involved.
* Update saved credentials on every device that connects to the server.

<Warning>
  Keep the console open while changing firewall rules. Do not disable account-lockout protection or expose all ports just to restore access.
</Warning>

If you need help, send [support@edbb.com](mailto:support@edbb.com) your VPS IP, the error code and the time the problem started. Do not send the password.
