# My VPS is not reachable

> Check service status, console access, network settings and listening ports when your EDBB VPS is unreachable. Narrow down the problem before changing settings.

If you cannot connect to your VPS, first check whether the problem affects the whole server or one application, such as SSH, Remote Desktop or a website.

## Check the service and console

<Steps>
  <Step title="Check the control panel">
    Sign in to [EDBB](https://my.edbb.com/clientarea.php) and open the VPS. Confirm it is powered on and installation has finished. If it is suspended, check [billing and renewals](/faq/billing-lifecycle/billing-workflow). If connections are extremely slow, check [traffic usage](/faq/traffic-bandwidth/traffic-statistics).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check for an incident">
    Look at the [status page](https://status.edis.global/) for your server's location. If you recently changed the primary IP, use the new address and check its configuration inside the VPS.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the VNC console">
    Follow [open the console](/vps-management/enable-vnc-server). If you can see the operating system, use it to check networking and services. A boot error needs a different repair from an SSH or firewall problem.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Check from inside the VPS

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="Linux">
    Inspect the interface, addresses and default route:

    ```bash theme={"system"}
    ip -br link
    ip -br addr
    ip route
    ```

    Compare them with the **Network** tab. Look for an interface marked `UP`, the assigned IPv4 address and a `default via` route using your gateway.

    Test the gateway, then an external address and DNS. Replace `YOUR_GATEWAY` with the value in your panel:

    ```bash theme={"system"}
    ping -c 4 YOUR_GATEWAY
    ping -c 4 1.1.1.1
    getent ahostsv4 example.com
    sudo ss -lntup
    ```

    The last command lists listening services. For SSH on Debian or Ubuntu, check `sudo systemctl status ssh`; on Rocky or AlmaLinux, check `sudo systemctl status sshd`. Use the service's logs to investigate errors.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Windows">
    In the console, open PowerShell and inspect the network settings:

    ```powershell theme={"system"}
    Get-NetIPConfiguration
    Get-NetRoute -AddressFamily IPv4
    Get-NetTCPConnection -State Listen
    ```

    Compare the address and gateway with the **Network** tab. Check that the required application or Remote Desktop service is running and that Windows Firewall allows the intended connection.
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

## What the results mean

| Result                                 | Next check                                                                                                                     |
| -------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Wrong or missing IP address | Correct the operating system's network configuration using the Network tab values. |
| Gateway or external IP does not reply | Check routes and firewall rules. Ping can be filtered; test the actual application too. |
| Numeric IP works, names fail | Check DNS resolver settings. |
| Server responds, but one port fails | Check the application, listening address and local firewall. See [ports and firewalls](/faq/ip-addresses/ports-and-firewalls). |
| Works from one network but not another | Compare client/network restrictions and [country reachability](/faq/ip-addresses/country-reachability). |
| Linux will not boot | Use the [Linux rescue guide](/vps-management/linux-rescue). |

Do not disable every firewall rule or reinstall the server as a first troubleshooting step.
